What To Expect With Naturopathic and Acupuncture Treatments

If youā€™ve never tried naturopathic medicine (offered by Metrotown Naturopathic) or traditional Chinese medicine (offered by Metrotown Acupuncture) before, you might be wondering what to expect. First of all, itā€™s important to know that naturopathic doctors and acupuncturists focus on treating the whole person in addition to your current symptoms. They also believe in using the least invasive treatments possible and they emphasize preventative care. So, if youā€™re considering seeing a naturopathic doctor or acupuncturist, here are a few things you can expect.

First of all, youā€™ll undergo a thorough initial session that usually takes about 60 minutes including recommended treatment options. This initial session will give your doctor a chance to get to know you and your health history. They may also order some additional testing, such as blood work or allergy testing. After that, your doctor will develop a personalized treatment plan for you. This may include dietary changes, supplements, and other lifestyle modifications.

Naturopathic and acupuncture treatments are often gentle but produce long-lasting effects that you may even start feeling right after your first treatment session! Follow-up visits may be 30 or 60 minutes long depending on the nature of your visit.

New Patient Intake Forms

To make your initial assessment process more streamlined, Please print and fill out the new patient intake form for

Alternatively, you may fill out the intake form at the clinic. Please arrive a few minutes earlier to complete the form. Prior to your initial and subsequent visits please use the following Self-Assessment Tool as recommended by the BCCDC.

Optional Diet Diary

You may also complete a Diet Diary to provide additional information for your naturopathic medical visit. Before beginning any sort of naturopathic treatment, including acupuncture, it is important that your naturopath or acupuncturist has a clear understanding of your diet. This can be accomplished by providing a detailed diet diary.

A diet diary will help your naturopath to identify any potential dietary triggers for your symptoms. It will also provide valuable information about the nutrient levels in your diet and whether you are getting enough of certain vitamins and minerals. Perhaps most importantly, a diet diary will give your naturopath a better understanding of your overall lifestyle and how it may be affecting your health. By taking the time to provide a detailed diet diary, you can help your naturopath to create a more effective treatment plan.

What If You’re Already Seeing a Doctor for Your Treatment?

Naturopathic medicine and acupuncture are two alternative medical treatments that can compliment the care provided by your family doctor. Naturopathic medicine focuses on treating the whole person, rather than just the symptoms of a disease. This means that naturopathic doctors will look at your lifestyle, diet, and stress levels in order to determine the underlying cause of your health problems.

Acupuncture is another holistic treatment that can be used to relieve pain, improve circulation, and promote overall health. Both naturopathic medicine and acupuncture can be used to complement the care provided by your family doctor, resulting in a more comprehensive approach to your health and well-being.
